    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Lafayette Central Catholic football team on winning back to back Class A state championships, going undefeated both seasons.

    Whereas, The unbeaten and number one ranked Lafayette Central Catholic football team continued its dominance in Class A state football by winning their second straight state championship, defeating Fountain Central 31-6;

    Whereas, Leading only 7-6 at halftime, Lafayette Central Catholic used an interception by Austin Mitchell and a fumble recovery by Cody Christopher to set up a pair of second-half touchdowns. They outscored Fountain Central 24-0 in the second half to secure the 31-6 victory;

    Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic amassed 204 rushing yards in the game, led by Danny Anthrop's 93 yards on 6 carries;

    Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic Head Coach Kevin O'Shea said about the win, "What was great about the win is that I think this program is established now. Last year we had a fantastic group and everybody expected us to win. This year we graduated eight guys on each side of the ball. It was a project each and every week and we got better each game";

    Whereas, Coach O'Shea credits his team's depth and conditioning for their success this season. O'Shea said, "Our players seem to thrive in the third and fourth quarters and our depth wears a lot of opponents out. We did a great job of not panicking and playing our game - that is a credit to our players";

    Whereas, Senior Cody Christopher was named the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award winner after the game. The award is presented annually to a senior in each classification who best demonstrates excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability. Christopher has a 3.6 GPA and is interested in studying pre-denistry;

    Whereas, The state championship was the second in a row for Lafayette Central Catholic and its fourth state championship overall. The victory extended the team's winning streak to 30 games and ensured a second consecutive 15-0 season; and

    Whereas, Winning the Class A state championship for the second year in a row is an incredible accomplishment for the Lafayette Central Catholic football team and worthy of enormous praise: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly
