"SECTION 3. [EFFECTIVE UPON PASSAGE] (a) As used in this
SECTION, "virtual instruction course" means a Core 40 course or
credit requirement that is provided in an interactive learning
environment created through technology in which students are
separated from their teachers by time or space, or both.
(b) Before December 1, 2012, the department of education shall
conduct an audit of school corporations to determine each school
corporation's ability to offer virtual instruction courses. The audit
must determine whether a school corporation has appropriate
technological capabilities and enough equipment to accommodate
the students who will be completing virtual instruction courses.
(c) The department of education shall send a report providing
a detailed summary of the results of the audit to the legislative
council in an electronic format under IC 5-14-6. A copy of the
report must also be posted on the department of education's
Internet web site.
(d) This SECTION expires January 1, 2013.
