        A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging Congress to pass legislation to include personal hygiene items in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
    

    Whereas, Individuals with low or no income lack sufficient funds to purchase necessary personal hygiene items;

    Whereas, These items are currently not covered under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federally funded nutrition program;

    Whereas, Individuals in need of services require more than just basic food items if they are to become self-supporting citizens once again;


    Whereas, Personal hygiene items are needed in order for individuals to apply for and obtain full-time or part-time employment;

    Whereas, Personal hygiene items can also aid in the prevention of certain diseases or physical disorders and can assist in the maintenance of general health; and

    Whereas, Without employment, these individuals will be unable to return to mainstream society: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives urges Congress to pass legislation to include personal hygiene items in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the members of the Indiana Congressional delegation.
