A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the USS LST Ship
Memorial, Evansville.
Whereas, The USS LST 325, one of 1,051 LSTs built during
World War II, is an amphibious vessel designed to land
battle-ready tanks, troops, and supplies directly onto enemy
shores;
Whereas, The USS LST 325, built in a Philadelphia ship
yard and commissioned on February 1, 1943, participated in
the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, and Normandy;
Whereas, During the invasion of Normandy, the USS LST
325 made over 40 round trip missions between England and
France ferrying troops, supplies, and the wounded;
Whereas, Given to the Greek Navy in 1964, the USS LST
325 was decommissioned in 1999;
Whereas, In 2000, the USS LST 325 was acquired from the
Greek Navy by the USS LST Ship Memorial;
Whereas, The ship was repaired and sailed back to the
United States, where it is the only near fully restored and
fully operational LST and one of only a few surviving vessels
that participated in the D-Day Invasion in 1944; and
Whereas, It is through memorials such as the one dedicated to the USS LST 325 that Hoosiers are reminded of the sacrifices made by others so that they may be free: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the
USS LST Ship Memorial and acknowledges the contributions made to
the community by the dedicated staff of this historical monument.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the executive
director and the board of directors of the USS LST Ship Memorial.
