HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the USS LST Ship Memorial, Evansville.

    Whereas, The USS LST 325, one of 1,051 LSTs built during World War II, is an amphibious vessel designed to land battle-ready tanks, troops, and supplies directly onto enemy shores;

    Whereas, The USS LST 325, built in a Philadelphia ship yard and commissioned on February 1, 1943, participated in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, and Normandy;

    Whereas, During the invasion of Normandy, the USS LST 325 made over 40 round trip missions between England and France ferrying troops, supplies, and the wounded;

    Whereas, Given to the Greek Navy in 1964, the USS LST 325 was decommissioned in 1999;

    Whereas, In 2000, the USS LST 325 was acquired from the Greek Navy by the USS LST Ship Memorial;

    Whereas, The ship was repaired and sailed back to the United States, where it is the only near fully restored and fully operational LST and one of only a few surviving vessels that participated in the D-Day Invasion in 1944; and

    Whereas, It is through memorials such as the one dedicated to the USS LST 325 that Hoosiers are reminded of the sacrifices made by others so that they may be free: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the USS LST Ship Memorial and acknowledges the contributions made to the community by the dedicated staff of this historical monument.
