Synopsis: Grants from military family relief fund. Extends the period
during which a qualified service member or dependent may be eligible
to receive assistance from the military family relief fund from one year
to three years. Provides that a member of the Indiana national guard
may be eligible to receive assistance from the military family relief
fund if the member is activated for state duty. Makes technical
corrections. (The introduced version of this bill was prepared by the
commission on military and veterans affairs.)

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
basic transportation, child care, education, employment or workforce,
and other essential family support expenses that have become difficult
to afford for qualified service members or dependents of qualified
(b) Except as provided in section 9 of this chapter, the commission shall expend the money in the fund exclusively to provide grants for assistance as described in subsection (a).
(c) A qualified service member or the qualified service member's dependent may be eligible to receive assistance from the fund for up to
one (1) year three (3) years after:
(1) for a qualified service member ordered to state duty under IC 10-16-7-7, the date the qualified service member's state duty ends; or
(2) for a qualified service member on active duty, the earlier of:
(1) (A) the date the qualified service member's active duty
service ends; or
(2) (B) the date, as established by presidential proclamation or
by law, of the cessation of the national conflict or war with
respect to which the qualified service member is eligible to
receive assistance under section 7.5(3)(B) 7.5(3)(A) of this
(d) The commission shall administer the fund.
