I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Interim Study
Committee on Redistricting to hold meetings outside of Marion
County in order to gain public input.
Whereas, The Interim Study Committee on Redistricting
was formed in 2011 to study redistricting and make
recommendations on ways to improve the redistricting process;
Whereas, The Interim Study Committee on Redistricting
met twice at the State house in Indianapolis in 2011 to hear
presentations from national experts on redistricting, and to
examine the intent and language of legislation that would
create statutory criteria for redistricting;
Whereas, The Interim Study Committee on Redistricting is
also charged with studying proposals to amend the Constitution
of the State of Indiana to establish an independent redistricting
commission;
Whereas, It is important to seek the input of Hoosiers from across the state on important redistricting issues such as identifying communities of interest and ranking of redistricting criteria; and
