    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Karen Kay Leonard for her service to The League of Women Voters of Indiana and to the State of Indiana.

    Whereas, Karen Kay Leonard was born in Oklahoma and earned degrees from Boston University and Southern Methodist University;             
    Whereas, Leonard enjoyed teaching literature and writing to young people in Massachusetts, New York, California, Texas, and Indiana;

    Whereas, Leonard joined the League of Women Voters in Bryan- College Station, Texas, in 1975 and served on the board for four years;

    Whereas, Leonard moved to Indianapolis in 1986, served on the board of the League of Women Voters of Indianapolis from 1987 to 2007, and served as President of the board from 1994 to 1995;

    Whereas, Leonard has been an active member of the Indianapolis community and the Highland-Kessler Civic League Neighborhood;

    Whereas, Leonard has served on the League of Women Voters Indiana State Board since 2007 wherein she was elected President in 2009;
    
    Whereas, The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that influences public policy through education and advocacy and encourages informed participation in government; and

    Whereas, on February 18, 2013, Leonard celebrated her 70th

birthday: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:    


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the outstanding contributions of Karen Kay Leonard to the communities of Indianapolis and to the State of Indiana and honors her upon her 70th birthday
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Karen Kay Leonard.
