A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Courtland Cottle.
Whereas, Courtland Cottle, an esteemed resident of
Kokomo and a student at Maple Crest Middle School, has
achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service
by receiving a 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Award;
Whereas, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential
Financial in partnership with the National Association of
Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across
America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment
to serving their communities;
Whereas, Courtland Cottle conducts a twice-yearly toy drive and collects travel-size toiletries to benefit children being
treated for cancer at a local hospital and families who stay at
a Ronald McDonald House while their children are
hospitalized;
Whereas, Courtland started her "Courty Cares" toy drives
in 2011 after the infant of a family friend was diagnosed with
liver cancer; and
Whereas, The success of the state of Indiana, the strength
of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society
depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people
such as Courtland Cottle who use their considerable talents
and resources to serve others: Therefore,
