A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating the Western
High School boys baseball team.
Whereas, The Western High School boys baseball team is
the 2012 Indiana High School Athletic Association's Class 3A
state champion;
Whereas, The Panthers earned the title by defeating the
Brebeuf Jesuit Braves 8-1;
Whereas, This championship game was the Panthers' first
appearance in the baseball state finals and marks Western High
School's second state championship in school history and the
first in a boys sport, with the other title coming in girls golf in
2001;
Whereas, The victory marked the 640th win in his 35th
season for head coach Ty Calloway;
Whereas, This outstanding team finished its season with a
record of 25 wins and 9 losses;
Whereas, On their road to the championship, the Western
Panthers defeated the Mishawaka Marian Knights, Griffith
Panthers, and the Bellmont Braves;
Whereas, Western High School baseball teams have won 17
Mid Indiana Conference titles, 15 sectional titles, and four
regional titles and have been semi-state finalists two times; and
Whereas, Outstanding athletic accomplishments such as
this deserve special recognition: Therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
congratulates the Western High School boys baseball team on its first
Class 3A state baseball championship and wishes the team members
continued success in all future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to team members
