A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Eddie Long.
Whereas, Born on June 11, 1933, in Ottawa, Ontario,
Canada, Eddie Long was the heart and soul of the Fort Wayne
Komets for 14 seasons;
Whereas, Eddie Long stood for the spirit of competition
and hard play;
Whereas, No player had ever worn No. 16, and the number
was the first Komets jersey to be retired when Eddie Long
retired;
Whereas, During his time with the Komets, Eddie Long scored 459 goals, 465 assists, and 924 points in 858 games;
Whereas, Mr. Komet, as Eddie Long was known during his
career, was part of two Turner Cup championship teams,
played in four International Hockey League All-Star games,
was the league's Most Valuable Player in 1963, and was named
all-league three times;
Whereas, Eddie Long loves the game of hockey and
continues to promote the sport by helping to organize multiple
hockey fundraisers for charity;
Whereas, In order to ensure that hockey will continue to be
played and enjoyed for decades to come, Eddie Long spends
much of his time teaching the game to children; and
Whereas, Eddie Long has dedicated his life to hockey and
playing to the best of his abilities: Therefore,
