Synopsis: Dual credit courses. Provides that: (1) after June 30, 2016, and before July 1, 2018, each high school is required to provide a number of dual credit courses and advanced placement courses sufficient to enable a student who qualifies to enroll in the courses to complete at least one year of college credit; and (2) after June 30, 2018, each high school is required to provide a number of dual credit courses and advanced placement courses sufficient to enable a student who qualifies to enroll in the courses to complete at least two years of college credit. Provides that a state educational institution may charge a high school student tuition for a dual credit or postsecondary credit course only if the course is taught by an employee of the state educational institution.

HOUSE BILL No. 1474



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

(a) This subsection applies before July 1, 2016. Each high school must provide at least two (2) of each of the following course offerings to high school students who qualify to enroll in the courses:
        (1) Dual credit.
        (2) Advanced placement.
     (b) This subsection applies after June 30, 2016, and before July 1, 2018. Each high school shall provide a number of dual credit courses and advanced placement courses sufficient to allow a student who qualifies to enroll in the courses to complete at least one (1) year of college credit.
     (c) This subsection applies after June 30, 2018. Each high school shall provide a number of dual credit courses and advanced placement courses sufficient to allow a student who qualifies to enroll in the courses to complete at least two (2) years of college

credit.

(a) An eligible institution may charge tuition to a student enrolled in a course offered by the eligible institution under the program only if the dual enrollment course for which the student enrolls is taught by an employee of the eligible institution.
    (b)
Upon demonstration of financial need, an eligible institution may grant financial assistance to a student accepted for admission to the eligible institution.

A state educational institution may grant financial assistance, including a waiver of tuition not otherwise covered by IC 21-14-8, to a student for courses taken under this program based on:
        (1) the student's financial need;
        (2) the student's academic achievement; or
        (3) any other criteria.
