"SECTION 6. IC 20-28-8-5.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
CODE AS A NEW
SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
[EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2013]: Sec. 5.5. (a) This section applies
whenever a governing body wishes to employ as a superintendent
an individual who does not hold a license under IC 20-28-5.
(b) An individual described in subsection (a) shall be granted a
temporary superintendent's license if the following requirements
(1) The governing body submits a written request to the state
superintendent for a temporary superintendent's license on
behalf of the individual. The written request must include the
(A) A description of the content area for the license of
"district level administrator: superintendent".
(B) Documentation of the individual's applicable
knowledge or experience.
(C) Documentation that the individual has obtained a
master's degree or higher degree from an accredited
postsecondary educational institution.
(2) The temporary superintendent's license approval
committee established by subsection (c) approves the written
request by a majority vote.
(c) The temporary superintendent's license approval committee
is established. The committee consists of five (5) members,
including the state superintendent. The state superintendent shall
appoint the remaining four (4) members, including the following:
(1) A member who is a building level administrator.
(2) A member who is a school corporation superintendent.
(3) Two (2) additional members.
(d) The holder of a temporary superintendent's license is eligible
to serve as a superintendent in the prekindergarten through grade
12 school setting within the governing body's jurisdiction.
(e) A temporary superintendent's license is valid until the
termination or expiration of the holder's contract with the

temporary superintendent's license.".
