SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing Sergeant Bradley Atwell.

Whereas, Sergeant Bradley Atwell, Kokomo, Indiana, was killed in the line of duty on September 14, 2012, when Taliban insurgents attacked the joint American-British base where he was stationed;

    Whereas, Insurgents snuck onto the base wearing United States Army uniforms and set off several explosions, killing Sergeant Atwell and another Marine;

    Whereas, Sergeant Atwell was part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and a member of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 based in Yuma, Arizona;

    Whereas, Sergeant Atwell was awarded the Purple Heart, which is given to military service men and women wounded or killed in battle;

    Whereas, Sergeant Atwell graduated from Taylor High School in 2003 and enlisted in the Marines in 2005;

    Whereas, Sergeant Atwell is remembered by the faculty and students of Taylor High School as a hard working, determined student and athlete, and was "everybody's best friend";

    Whereas, Sergeant Atwell will be remembered as a very loving husband, son, and brother, and an extremely

courageous Marine;

    Whereas, The family and friends of Sergeant Atwell can take comfort in the knowledge that Sergeant Atwell believed in what he was doing and that he is truly an American hero; and

    Whereas, Throughout history brave men like Sergeant Bradley Atwell have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom throughout the world; without men like Sergeant Atwell freedom could not survive: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
the House of Representatives concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly expresses with this Resolution its deep sympathy to Sergeant Bradley Atwell's family at the loss of their loved one and the pride that all Hoosiers feel for having had a young man so brave and proud to protect us in this time of war.
    SECTION 2. That the copies of this resolution be transmitted to the family of Sergeant Bradley Atwell.
