    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Tyler Eifert, winner of the 2012 John Mackey Award.
    Whereas, Tyler Eifert, tight end for the University of Notre Dame football team, was presented with the prestigious John Mackey Award for his outstanding 2012 football season;

    Whereas, The John Mackey Award is presented each year to the best tight end in the country. The award is given to the player who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of its namesake, NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey;

    Whereas, Eifert earned the Mackey Award based on his phenomenal 2012 season where he accumulated 624 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns while leading undefeated Notre Dame to the BCS National Championship game;

    Whereas, With this award, Eifert assures himself a place in Notre Dame football history. He is the first Irish player to win the Mackey Award and he is currently Notre Dame's all-time leading receiver;

    Whereas, It is no surprise that Eifert won the Mackey Award in 2012. In 2011, he asserted himself as one of the top tight ends in the country based on his 63 catches, 803 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns;

    Whereas, Tyler was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is currently a senior at the University of Notre Dame and is on pace to graduate with a degree in Finance; and

    Whereas, Tyler Eifert has set himself apart as a tight end at the University of Notre Dame and nationwide. With this win, he joins an elite group of exceptional football players: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

     SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates Tyler Eifert on winning the 2012 John Mackey Award.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Tyler Eifert.
