I move that House Bill 1270 be amended to read as follows:
Page 1, between the enacting clause and line 1, begin a new
paragraph and insert:
"SECTION 1. IC 20-10.1-2-5.3 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
[EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2000]: Sec. 5.3. The state board of education
shall require the reciting of the first two sentences of the
Declaration of Independence in each school, at the beginning of
each school day, as follows: "We hold these truths to be self-
evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these
rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just
powers from the consent of the governed.""
Renumber all SECTIONS consecutively.
