Synopsis: Preservation of mailbox areas. Prohibits a person who owns
or operates an underground utility line from placing a new line or
extending an existing line into an area designated by the United States
Postal Service for the placement of curbside mailboxes.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
utilities and transportation.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A
NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2001]:
Sec. 15.5. (a) This section does not apply to underground
water or sewer facilities placed at a depth of at least four (4) feet
underground.
(b) An operator may not place a new underground facility or
extend an existing underground facility into an area designated by
the United States Postal Service for the placement of curbside
mailboxes.
