Synopsis: Study of truck traffic. Establishes the interim study committee on truck transportation issues. Requires the committee to study: (1) accident patterns involving trucks; (2) truck speeds; (3) creation of truck free highways in Indiana; and (4) other issues relating to truck traffic in Indiana that the committee considers relevant or that are assigned by the legislative council.

Effective: July 1, 2001.

HOUSE BILL No. 1566



    A BILL FOR AN ACT concerning motor vehicles.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: ; (01)IN1566.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2001] (a) As used in this SECTION, "committee" refers to the interim study committee on truck transportation issues established by this SECTION.
    (b) There is established the interim study committee on truck transportation issues. The committee shall study the following issues:
        (1) Accident patterns involving trucks.
        (2) Truck speeds.
        (3) Creation of truck free highways in Indiana.
        (4) Other issues relating to truck traffic in Indiana that the committee considers relevant or that are assigned by the legislative council.
    (c) The committee shall operate under the policies governing study committees adopted by the legislative council.
    (d) In addition to legislative members appointed to the committee, the voting members of the committee must include one (1) representative of each of the following, appointed by the governor:
        (1) The state police department.
        (2) The Indiana department of transportation.
    (e) The affirmative votes of a majority of the voting members appointed to the committee are required for the committee to take action on any measure, including final reports.
    (f) This SECTION expires January 1, 2002.
