Synopsis: Gary school board. Provides for the election of the member of the governing body of the Gary school corporation who is currently appointed by the mayor of the city of Gary. Specifies when vacancies occur in the governing body, including whenever a member ceases to be a resident of the school corporation, whenever a member moves from the school district in which the member was elected, and whenever a member fails to attend, except for chronic illness, six regularly scheduled meetings in any 12 month period. (This conference committee report removes a provision that allowed the mayor of the city of Gary to appoint a nonvoting advisory member to the governing body of the Gary school corporation.)

Effective: July 1, 2001.



CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT

MR. PRESIDENT:
    Your Conference Committee appointed to confer with a like committee from the House upon Engrossed Senate Amendments to Engrossed House Bill No. 1849 respectfully reports that said two committees have conferred and agreed as follows to wit:

    that the House recede from its dissent from all Senate amendments and that the House now concur in all Senate amendments to the bill and that the bill be further amended as follows:

    Page 1, line 3, delete "one (1) nonvoting advisory".
    Page 1, line 4, delete "member appointed under subsection (c) and".
    Page 1, line 4, delete "voting".
    Page 2, delete lines 10 through 18.
    Page 4, line 14, delete "2002" and insert " 2004".
    Page 5, delete lines 1 through 6.
    Page 5, line 7, delete "(e)" and insert " (d)".
