Synopsis: Eligibility for SSACI programs. Provides eligibility to
participate in financial aid programs administered by the state student
assistance commission (SSACI) to dependent students who graduate
from high school in this state and who reside in this state with a blood
relative other than the student's parent. (Under current law, a student
who meets this description but who has a parent living outside of this
state is not eligible to participate in SSACI programs.)
Effective: Upon passage.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
education.
SECTION 1.
IC 20-12-21-5.6
IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
[EFFECTIVE UPON PASSAGE]: Sec. 5.6. (a) This section applies
to a person who:
(1) is a dependent student;
(2) is a graduate of a high school in Indiana; and
(3) resides in Indiana with a blood relative other than the
person's parent.
(b) For purposes of determining eligibility of a person described
in subsection (a) to receive financial aid administered by the
commission under this chapter or any other law, the commission
shall use the residence or domicile of the blood relative described
in subsection (a) to determine the person's residence or domicile.
SECTION 2. An emergency is declared for this act.
