performing an abortion on the pregnant woman.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
health.
SECTION 1.
IC 16-34-2-1.3
IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2002]: Sec. 1.3. (a) In addition to the information required under
section 1.1 of this chapter, at least eighteen (18) hours before the
abortion, the pregnant woman must be orally informed of the
following by any of the health care providers described in section
1.1(1) of this chapter:
(1) The availability of fetal ultrasound imaging and
auscultation of fetal heart tone services to enable the pregnant
woman to view the image and hear the heartbeat of the fetus.
(2) How to access the services described in subdivision (1).
(b) Before the abortion is performed, the pregnant woman must
certify in writing that the information required by subsection (a)
has been provided.
