MR. PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION to recognize Heltonville Elementary
School on its designation as a 2000-2001 Four Star School.
Whereas, Heltonville Elementary School was built in the
early 1900's. Located in the rural hills of southern Indiana,
Heltonville Elementary has an enrollment of 144 students
ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade;
Whereas, the North Lawrence Community School
Corporation is comprised of ten elementary schools, three
junior high/middle schools, one high school, a
vocational/technical facility and a special education center.
Heltonville Elementary is the first Lawrence County school to
receive designation as a Four Star School by the Indiana
Department of Education;
Whereas, each year the Indiana Department of Education presents the Four Star Schools Award to schools who meet all accreditation requirements and perform in the top 25% of all Indiana schools in the following categories: attendance rate, ISTEP+ mathematics and English/language arts proficiency scores, and the percentage of students meeting state academic standards on ISTEP+ in both English/language arts and
mathematics;
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes and commends
Heltonville Elementary School on its designation as a Four Star
School by the Indiana Department of Education.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Douglas Martin, Principal of
Heltonville Elementary School and James Terrell, Superintendent of
North Lawrence Community Schools.
