DIGEST OF INTRODUCED BILL

Train whistles. Requires the department of transportation (INDOT) to complete the safety study of a railroad crossing subject to a proposed train whistle ban not later than 120 days after INDOT receives notice of the passage of a train whistle ban ordinance from a city, town, or county. Allows INDOT to create pilot railroad crossing safety projects to improve railroad crossing safety. Specifies that the engineer or other person operating an engine is authorized to determine whether there is an emergency requiring the sounding of the engine's whistle notwithstanding an ordinance banning train whistles.
