Synopsis: School instructional days. Provides that a maximum of: (1) two school days when students are dismissed for a full day for parent-teacher conferences; and (2) two school days when students are dismissed for a full day for staff professional development activities; may be counted as student instructional days for purposes of the required 180 day school year. Voids provisions in the Indiana Administrative Code that allow partial school days used for parent-teacher conferences to count as partial student instructional days and that do not allow students to be dismissed for full days for parent-teacher conferences and staff professional development activities.

HOUSE BILL No. 1216



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 20-30-2-2; (06)IN1216.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 20-30-2-2, AS ADDED BY P.L.242-2005, SECTION 15, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2006]: Sec. 2. (a) Except as provided in subsections (c) and (d), a student instructional day in grades 1 through 6 consists of at least five (5) hours of instructional time. Except as provided in subsection subsections (b), (c), and (d), a student instructional day in grades 7 through 12 consists of at least six (6) hours of instructional time.
    (b) An instructional day for a school flex program under section 2.2 of this chapter consists of a minimum of three (3) hours of instructional time.
     (c) Not more than two (2) school days in a school year when the school corporation dismisses students for a full day to conduct parent-teacher conferences may be counted as student instructional days. However, if students are dismissed for a partial school day for parent-teacher conferences, the partial school day may not count as a partial student instructional day.
     (d) Not more than two (2) school days in a school year when the

school corporation dismisses students for a full day to conduct staff professional development activities may be counted as student instructional days. However, if students are dismissed for a partial school day for staff professional development activities, the partial school day may not count as a partial student instructional day.
