DIGEST OF INTRODUCED BILL

Same day voter registration. Permits a voter to register at the polls by completing a voter registration form, an affirmation that the person has not voted elsewhere in the election, and proof of residence. Specifies the documents acceptable as proof of residence, including a statement signed by another voter in the precinct that corroborates the residency of the person registering to vote. Requires that voter registration forms executed at the polls be processed in the same manner as other registrations. Provides that an individual furnishes acceptable "proof of identification" for voting purposes if the individual presents one of the following documents issued to the individual, if the document shows the name of the individual, and the name conforms to the name in the individual's voter registration record: (1) A driver's license or state identification card issued by the state. (2) Official identification or a license issued by the United States, the state, a political subdivision, an employer, or a public or private higher educational institution. (3) A credit card. (4) A library card. (5) A check-cashing or courtesy card issued by a merchant in the normal course of business. (6) A real estate tax bill or receipt. (7) A residential lease. (8) A current electric, gas, or telephone bill that shows the name and address of the voter and service not earlier than 90 days before the election. (9) An airplane pilot's license. (10) A military discharge. (11) A handgun license.
