Synopsis: Community corrections employees and firearms. Allows an employee of a community corrections program to carry a firearm or handgun while acting as an employee of a community corrections program if the employee: (1) may legally carry a handgun or firearm; and (2) has successfully completed a certified handgun safety course.

Effective: July 1, 2007.

    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning corrections.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 11-12-1-6; (07)IN1644.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 11-12-1-6 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2007]: Sec. 6. An employee of a community corrections program may carry a firearm (as defined in IC 35-47-1-5) or handgun (as defined in IC 35-47-1-6) while acting in the scope of employment as an employee of a community corrections program if the employee:
        (1) may legally carry a handgun or firearm; and
        (2) has successfully completed a handgun safety course certified by the law enforcement training board under IC 5-2-1-9(m).
