Synopsis: School resource officers. Provides that a regular or special police officer who is assigned as a school resource officer for a school corporation is required to receive at least 30 hours annually of duty specific training and education. Provides that the school corporation pays the cost of the training.

    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning education.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 20-26-5-32; (09)IN0412.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 20-26-5-32 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2009]: Sec. 32. (a) This section applies to a regular or special police officer who is assigned as a school resource officer for a school corporation under IC 36-8-3-7. The governing body of the school corporation to which the police officer is assigned shall ensure that the police officer annually receives at least thirty (30) hours of duty specific training and education provided by a national association of school resource officers or a similar organization.
    (b) The governing body of a school corporation shall pay the cost of providing training under this section for a regular or special police officer assigned to the school corporation.
